Meaning of Structural Analysis
Structural Analysis: Structural Analysis is the first stage of treatment in psychotherapy. It is followed by Transactional Analysis Proper, Game Analysis and Script Analysis. The purpose of Structural Analysis is to facilitate social control*. Structural Analysis is a therapeutic procedure to identify the source of a psychiatric problem. If the pathology is in the first order structure, well and good. At times it could be in the second order or third order structure. That makes treatment challenging, difficult and time consuming.
Structural Analysis is a therapeutic process in which the therapist facilitates the segregation of ego states and gets to establish the predominance of reality-testing Adult ego states and freeing it from Child and Parent contamination.
As a clinical operation Structural Analysis concerns itself with the resolution of internal conflicts through diagnosis of ego states, decontamination, boundary work and stabilisation so that the Adult can maintain the executive of the personality in stressful situations.

The process of structural analysis results in clarification. Clarification enables the person to experience the feelings and thoughts that originate in Parent and Child and the manner in which they influence the person's reality testing capacity.

* Social Control has two meanings. One: It enables a person to resist the manipulation by other people and to resist his / her own tendency to manipulate others in destructive or wasteful ways. Two: Social Control is the first step in Structural Analysis. It enables the person to listen to dialogues that go on in his / her head.
